If you wish to save money by installing your own windows you still can. Since the introduction of Part-L to the building regulations, it has been a requirement that most window installations in dwellings be certified as compliant.

This is commonly referred to as a FENSA certificate. However FENSA is simply the best known of several independent organisations that run self-certification schemes for installers. Moreover there is an option open to individuals that allows them to complete their own installation and have it certified compliant by the local authority’s building control dept.

If you wish to take this route I offer a survey service which gives a guaranteed correct fit* and also guarantees that the installation will be compliant to all relevant building regulations**. A survey for a typical house (8 windows) in Bristol will cost around £120.

I also offer a supply only service (with or without a survey) on high quality PVC-U windows, doors and conservatories. For a competitive quote email your approximate sizes and styles to steve@k-rest.co.uk

* Provided that the appropriate permissions and conditions have been granted and adhered to.
**The installation notes provided with the survey must be followed.
